How Do I Get My First Online Order?

Launching your store doesn’t automatically bring customers — that takes a deliberate push. Here’s where to focus your energy for your very first order.

Start with people who already know you

  • Share your store directly with friends, family, and existing contacts — personal outreach converts far better than cold traffic for a first order
  • Post on your personal and business social media accounts
  • If you have an existing customer base (from a physical store or social selling), tell them directly your store is live

Use a launch incentive

A time-limited launch discount, set up via Commerce > Sales > Discounts, gives people a concrete reason to buy now rather than “someday.” Even a modest discount (10–15%) paired with genuine urgency (“live this week only”) tends to outperform a bigger discount with no deadline.

Use your built-in marketing tools

  • Marketing > Facebook Settings — connect your store to Facebook if you have a presence there already
  • Marketing > Blogs — a launch announcement post can double as shareable content and light SEO

The highest-leverage move for a first order

💡 Tip: Direct, personal outreach to 10–20 people who already trust you will almost always produce your first order faster than any ad or algorithm. Save paid marketing and broader promotion for after you’ve validated that checkout, shipping, and fulfillment actually work end-to-end on a real order.
